Landmark Tourist Spot
Take a walk down Kawagoe Ichibangai Shopping Street, a commercial and touristic street lined with traditional Japanese storehouse architecture. After destruction by a fire in 1893, the city's wealthy merchants rebuilt the street using the fireproof design of storehouses, with tiled roofs and a separation between living areas and storage rooms. Stop by the many quaint shops selling locally made treats, souvenirs, and trinkets, and take a break at one of the restaurants for a bowl of ramen and some tempura. Where to stay in Kawagoe

You can find plenty of budget-friendly accommodation in the vicinity of Kawagoe's train station, Hon-Kawagoe, near the historic district. Options mostly consist of 2- and 3- star hotels that offer clean, modest rooms, and free wi-fi, some western-style and some with tatami floors. A number of traditional Japanese "ryokan", or bed-and-breakfasts can be found all over town as well. A "capsule hotel" lies right outside the train station, with tiny sleeping compartments, locker rooms, and showers.
