Shibamata Taishakuten, Katsushika
(4/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Admire extraordinary wooden carvings and a lovely landscape garden among pine trees and bonsais at Shibamata Taishakuten, a Buddhist shrine with impressive gates set in a busy Tokyo suburb. Founded in 1629, the temple is a popular spot for locals, providing a calm atmosphere and quality craftsmanship to admire. The Edo River flows just east of the temple grounds, while the nearby road serves as a traditional street market with shops, stands, and restaurants all the way to the temple gates. Lying about 10 km (6 mi) from Asakusa, the temple sits some seven minutes by foot from Shibamata station on the Keisei line. Put Shibamata Taishakuten at the forefront of your travel plans using our Tokyo travel itinerary planner.

  • Saver Tora-San was baby's first bath, a man is hard well Holy Taishakuten. Senso-ji Temple of Asakusa Nakamise and the atmosphere is quite different and has small, but important that local people can ask. New year's day is crowded with many people.

  • Shibamata station Tora-San's statue will come to meet you. Even the street atmosphere. Please come to see your sculptures of the temple and the garden. Visitors even on weekdays, so much as it is not.

  • Through the approach and have a splendid gate. Entering the grounds and recalled scenes of the film. And the image seen in the movie just difference except sekiguchidai, small. Feel the history, does my heart good. Leisurely in less than 1 hour, walk near the River Bank and to go to the Hall of Fame.

  • Beautiful temple and not so crowded , totally recommended
  • The temple is beautiful if you like wood carvings should not miss.
  • One of Tokyo's most beautiful temples. Wanna visit here again.
  • The place is beautiful but it felt like a tourist trap with a guy doing some performance with his monkey.
  • Well worth to visit
