Katori Shrine, Katori

4.5
Enjoy the elegant vermillion, golden, and black color scheme of Katori Shrine, the most prominent of several hundred Shinto Katori shrines in an imposing early 1700s building set in a large forest. Dedicated to a warrior god, the shrine enjoyed great popularity among the samurai. It also gives its name to one of the three major sword-fighting styles in Japan, and was revered by the Imperial Court as a guardian shrine of the nation. Many impressively old, large trees around the shrine remain preserved due to a taboo. Colorful seasonal processions take place at the shrine, while plenty of good restaurants around the temple offer "unagi," a freshwater eel specialty. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Katori holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Katori Shrine and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Had not been different sliding row time loop after Tokyo station Kashima Jingu Shrine visits here was found in the Sahara station on the net. Go by taxi to approach before but did not. Forward approach and follow and arrive at the dark shrine is beside the large your visits to the "keys" and "inner shrine", around the shrine and sacred tree. Okay come on time has been used on iron green bus bus! It was. One was in one of three East shimofusa country Ichinomiya... in court 四方拝 遥拝 be.

  • SAG precincts and the maple leaf, behind the stately front shrine and shrine. And regret and think that more than a month and decorate the scenery around the beautiful maple, was perhaps time alone.... Also, is the "Dragon whiskers" around the honden and haiden, well-kept beaches and has been planted and was like telling the height of formality honden and haiden.

  • It's a peaceful and beautiful temple!
  • Beautiful well maintained shrine with large trees and beautiful ponds, well worth the time to go see if your in the area.
  • Kanto power spot. Explore Keystone, okumiya. Let's take a rest in the classic souvenir shop behind the main if you are tired. Roof is on the lookout, the views can be enjoyed while drinking soda. But the trees are too thick, and is not (laughs)

  • Using the Seishun 18 ticket, heard from Katori station on foot. Hiking also goes good or I thought. Google navigation is required. On the second visit, remembered the atmosphere inside the shrine but invigorating. It is recommended that those places the road by bus on weekends.

  • Long look at the reviews of other people if you know the very prestigious (formerly info-Taisha Shrine) in. Ancient, when stretched inland area called Katori sea opening towards the East, opposite Kashima Jingu Shrine and had tatazta in a 1 vs. Suspect probably acted as a spiritual and military bases for the control of Yezo as the keystone of the international management of the Imperial Court. Design of vermilion is not astringent and is wonderful. Several places there is free ample parking, but still lot of worshippers crowded in the holidays so be careful.
