Religious Site
Set in a well-preserved forest sanctuary at the foot of Mount Unebi, Kashihara Shrine represents the place where the first Japanese emperor ascended the throne. The popular Shinto shrine's campus provides space for large gatherings; you may also visit the gong and watch locals performing thai chi. The current building was constructed in 1889. The site houses food shops inside, and it is only a 10-minute walk from the railway station. • A national shrine, as opposed to a local shrine, worshipping the Emperor -- Aesthetically symbolic. Overstaffed when most of the time not much happens here. Other than during special national events, rather quiet, dry, detached, uninteresting. Did not have a welcoming spirit. There are much nicer local shrines and temples elsewhere,
  • Visited this shrine in April 2016 when they had the Jinmu Festival - a superb evening production of laser-light performances on the roof of the main shrine! There's a tented food stall that sells udon noodles, etc. while you sit and wait for the evening show to start. Nestled in a vast, tranquil park and only a 10-min walk from the JR station.
  • One of the most famous shrines in the country. Grand, beautiful, historic; what else could you ask for. If you are in the area, you must go.
  • Beginning from Miyazaki, where the emperor began.
  • I visited this place 4/2. In the humbled a little cool air. It was a good thing to feel a solemn silence. Cherry was feeling it now. Enshrinement Festival of the emperor was being held.
