Nagamachi District, Kanazawa
(3.6/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web)
Found at the foot of a former castle, Nagamachi District transports visitors back to the age of samurais. Walking along the stone pavements within the district's walls, you can see the remaining middle-to-upper class samurai residences, earthen mud walls, and private entrance gates. The historic atmosphere is enriched by the Nomura-ke, a restored samurai residence displaying artifacts from the city's prosperous era and a small garden. Obtain a contrasting perspective by visiting a museum providing insight into the lives of the merchant class. Teahouses and restaurants, scattered throughout the district, allow visitors to rest and taste the local cuisine.
