Kaminoyama Castle is a hirayama-style Japanese castle located in the center of the city of Kaminoyama, eastern Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. Throughout the Edo period, Kaminoyama Castle was the headquarters for the daimyō of Kaminoyama Domain. The castle was also known as "Tsukoka-jō".HistoryThe first castle on this site dates to the early Muromachi period, when the area was under the control of the Tendō clan. The area was contested between the Mogami clan and the Date clan, changing hands several times. The foundations of the present castle were built by Takenaga Yoshitada, a retainer of the Mogami, in 1535. However, after the establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate, the Mogami were dispossessed, and a new 40,000 koku domain, Kaminoyama Domain was created. Thereafter the castle and Kaminoyama Domain passed through a number of daimyo clans, often for only a generation or two, and its revenues were often reduced. Under the Toki clan, a donjon was built, but it was destroyed when the clan was transferred elsewhere in 1692. In 1697, the castle came under the control of the Fujii branch of the Matsudaira clan, which continued to rule over Kaminoyama Domain until the Meiji restoration.

  • On March 18, wall construction, cannot go to the Observatory. Exhibition of dolls, I was the only 1 room exhibit. I finished seeing immediately. Near the entrance to the scarecrow can buy souvenirs or a break in the tea house.

  • Suitable for admission, including the exhibits may be idle, my satisfaction is found. You need to take to study privately also does not spend history buff side facilities might be better.

  • Not a big castle, but you can see the city of Kaminoyama from it. The museum inside exhibits several historical items. There's no English description around the castle, even inside the museum.
  • Wonderful kaminoyama castle! Valuable castle and interesting to people. Satisfied all service to the guest.
  • Interesting for historical story.
  • good
  • One of the typical attractions of kaminoyama city. Castle here was originally restored the Castle and was much better, but was like a castle to the image we built a moat around the Hill, not a castle fortress. Well get in on the fortress, and regardless of whether historical exhibits, kaminoyama and nature and also many of the greats, and rather strong regional Museum features that. Stairs are hard, and there where you can enjoy even if you're elderly throughout with elevator. And this is the view from the top-floor Tower. Mountain range of the majestic Mount zaō first jump. It feels half of the admission fee: ¥ 410 Moto took. I feel the Lord Kamiyama town, ends. Should become a unforgettable experience even if you soak the foot bath (free) If you can buy a specialty ball konjac in, located just off the taste.
