Myojin Pond, Kamikochi

4.5
#3 of 15 in Things to do in Kamikochi
Water Body Nature / Park
Immerse yourself in pristine nature amid rugged mountains and steep slopes at Myojin Pond. Life-like reflections of trees off the still surface and mist above the water will make you pause as you observe the vegetation on the bottom of the pond through crystal clear water. Moss-covered rocks lapped with water provide shelter for ducks and dragon flies, while curious snow monkeys hang out in evergreen trees above. Appreciate the small waterfall and wooden suspension bridge that add to the scene, then taste freshly caught fish on a skewer. You can find accommodations near the pond. Where to stay in Kamikochi

Visitors to Kamikochi in want of a little luxury will need to book ahead. As a sought-after holiday destination that has resisted overdevelopment, Kamikochi offers a relatively small number of upmarket lodgings--just a few traditional ryokans in town, and others next to the hot springs across the mountainous terrain. Budget-conscious travelers have an easier time finding a place to stay, with some hiking lodges next to the rivers, as well as campgrounds.
