Tokeiji Temple, Kamakura

(140+ reviews on the web)
Religious Site Tourist Spot
Established in 1285, the Buddhist temple and nunnery of Tokeiji Temple notably acted as a refuge for women who were abused by their husbands. After the death of her husband, nun Kakusan-ni opened the temple in his memory, and it became a refuge for abused wives who sought divorce, which was not allowed in those days. Here you can reflect on the important social role this temple in particular performed (taking in over 2,000 women during the Edo period alone), and wander the peaceful, picturesque gardens, which offer year-round blooms of flowers. Plan your visit to Tokeiji Temple and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Kamakura vacation generator.

  • It is a temple — appearance. It is very good history and serenity. France literature, Tatsuhiko shibusawa's grave cemetery steps up and to the left.

  • Bag like for example was eerie personally. In the dimly lit, and after clearly seems grave to be I. Graves, Hi! This just thankfully power spots to feel totally different. To be reminded of death power spot is questionable. 有ri難gari what history and tradition have distorted thinking, isn't it? Feel the death to live once again strongly desire mean? Today there is scientific data and potentially, bad acting immune and emotions, and be reminded of death. In the serene natural building seems like foreigners. If you want to see historic buildings has more impact here is not.
