Sengan-en Garden, Kagoshima

Take a relaxing stroll through Sengan-en Garden, a scenic Japanese-style garden that forms part of a World Heritage Site. Built in 1658 as a private residence for the Shimazu Clan, the gardens are renowned for offering postcard-like views of the majestic Mt. Sakurajima in the background. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere as you roam the luscious landscape, sprinkled with ponds, picturesque stone bridges, bamboo groves, and an array of seasonal trees and plants. For an additional fee, you can take a short tour of the Iso villa, reconstructed in the 19th century. • On his way to the airport on the last day of the Kagoshima travel came. So it should have passed here, in fact, on the first day way from airport to Kagoshima City, Sakura-jima has looked to the sea Had passed did not realize at all that, and even though opening day is time should have plenty of, and would last if you rented a car from Kagoshima airport in Kagoshima City, exactly into the city of Kagoshima City, so very old easy-to-do. So there is a quiet garden, took plenty of time.

  • It was a visit in the rain. So couldn't see the Sakura-jima. And our garden is well kept and beautiful. In most of the rooms look at the Sakura-jima because I think more disappointing in the rain. It is smaller than I thought but there was a foundation of the reverberatory furnace (masonry). But stout had imagined would be produced making hard to devise, in addition to good quality iron. I thought it was Stone lanterns in the garden on the stone plate 8 tatami mats as lion head facing down, facing the Sakura-jima.

  • Write for other streets, bus access is not so good is less spacious garden, cherry blossoms and other flowers are starting to bloom, laid back very slowly. Tea room with a stunning view of the Sakura-Jima and we would personally recommend one at Kagoshima City. I think it was probably because of the season can't go up to the top of the mountain to also ask.

  • What starts out as a fairly mundane walk through some souvenir shops masked as traditional buildings, quickly turns into a real treat as you work your way into the garden. Top tip: don't allow the open spaces to draw you in too much; the garden is a web of little paths that are really quite rewarding. (This is true for most Japanese gardens, but this one especially)
  • Google maps says there's no way to take public transportation here from Kagoshima Chuo Station but you can take the City View bus. The bus leaves about every half an hour. The park admission is a little pricey, 1000 yen per adult but it is very beautiful. You could easily get lost walking around for 2 hours. The views of Sakurajima is beautiful from here and on the day we went you can see some ashes? Coming from it.
  • Definitely worth visiting for westerners, 1000 yen entry fee is a bit much but very large area and stunning garden, trek up the hill gives amazing views, only before 4pm
  • Tranquil garden. Good and peaceful walk.. To enjoy the scenery
  • Fantastic place. Easy access and plenty of activities and shops inside
