Sakurajima, Kagoshima

Encounter one of Japan's most active volcanoes, Sakurajima, via hiking trails, footpaths, and more. This site, which has become synonymous with Kagoshima, is always smoking with minor eruptions happening throughout the day. You can view the natural attraction, standing at 1,117 m (3,665 ft) tall, from far away, or explore tourist activities at its base. The easiest way to reach the volcano is by taking the ferry that travels from Kagoshima Port to Sakrajima Ferry Terminal. Here you will find an information center and opportunities for exploring on foot. If you wish to discover more of the area by car, rent one on the mainland and bring it on the ferry. • For those who have not seen the volcano, it is shocking to see that the crater is constantly sprayed with black smoke. Cherry Island Area is not small, I chose the regular light bus to participate. There are a few cars on the bus, I am on the pier, 2 hours 10 minutes, 1,800 round, there is a guide, and in English to talk about the data. Volcanoes are dangerous, people here choose to coexist with them, and their respect for their own hometown is admirable.

  • Cherry Island must take the Cherry Island ferry! Cherry Island Ferry is 24 hours a boat, and the ship's Ukraine good taste ~ 15 minutes to reach Cherry Island! If you don't have a car, you can take a light bus! There are 2 kinds: 1.2 hours of deep travel (only 2 classes per day) 2. 1-hour Flash (less view) because time is not enough, the last one was a quick flash. 1 hours took us to 3 famous scenic spots (soup flat prospect, Chishui Square, Cherry Island visitors will stop for 5-15 minutes to take photos!) And then went out of the open air outside the feet of the foot soup feel great!!!

  • Lovely island with plenty to do including going for natural hot spring baths and taking beautiful photos of the scenery. Good for a family day trip or even half day. Accessible by ferry or road depending on the direction you are coming from. There is a visitor centre on the island where you can learn how the island came about.
  • Is the place to see in Kagoshima. If you go there you cannot miss the tour bus!!
  • “Wish we had better weather but still worth it” Just wish the weather was better as we didn't get to see any of the potentially fantastic views, oh well, just another excuse to return, what I did see I enjoyed, the visitor centre was a great help with maps and info and I enjoyed a nice drive around the island which only took about 30 minutes, the star was the Yunohiro Observatory, it was very windy up there but I guess that's to be expected, the limited view I had with the cloud cover and all I enjoyed. Getting there isn't a problem as the ferries seem to operate every 15 - 20 minutes so you can also take your car.
  • The weather was not that great (it was raining) but it was definitely fun! The view is amazing and the onsen is great experience! Get the island view pass if you are not renting a car.
  • Must visit when you're in Kagoshima. The landscapes here are stunning and it's one of the best ferry ride.
