Kagoshima City Aquarium, Kagoshima

3.9
#3 of 23 in Parks in Kagoshima
Spread over seven floors, Kagoshima City Aquarium displays a wide array of marine life forms, from the small and ethereal, to the whale shark, the world's biggest fish. The waters surrounding this aquarium harbor an unusually diverse range of life due to the bay's subterranean volcanism and the Kuroshio current that courses by. You'll see exhibits on these habitats specifically, with the aquarium's largest tank demonstrating the populace found in the current. Witness shoals of fish moving in unison as giant rays gracefully glide around them, and marvel at the enormous whale shark. Watch the dolphins execute incredible tricks alongside their trainers at one of the performances, and check feeding times on the website to catch this popular event. • It is the only aquarium in Kagoshima, outside the waterway has been made dolphin. It is not a place with a one day and play.

  • Specimens and species are aquatic wildlife in the area with many species from reefs and corals. Everything is color and colour. We also find unique fish of the particularly interesting depths. For those hungry for shows, the dolphins offer a show well established with 6 beautiful specimens in the pool that are then released into outdoor pool. The restaurant offers comfort if you're hungry with a menu at modest price with unique dishes like an omelette covering his rice with a topped beef curry, imitating the Sakurajima volcano nearby. You will like even if the Osaka aquarium offers perhaps more.

  • We stumbled upon this lovely aquarium and visited on the spur of the moment. It was a great way to spend a few hours. The exhibits are really well arranged, the animals all looked healthy and happy (a...  more »

  • Located at dolphin port, a thirty minute walk from Kagoshima chuo station, the aquarium is easily accessible and a good place to spend half a day. Although it's a smaller aquarium for Japan it is family orientated with lots of educational activities for children. The dolphin show is very impressive, but their tank looks very small. Also some dolphins are kept in the canal outside. There seems to be a focus on reintroducing animals into the ocean which I haven"t seen before in aquariums in Japan.
  • Fantastic aquarium! Very thorough showcase of the local aquatic life at various depths, as well as some exhibits focusing on rare overseas species. If you’re in the area, the 1,500 yen entrance fee (adult) is a no brainer. Takes over 2 hours if you take your time to enjoy each exhibit.
  • Great place for kids and adults alike. Very educational. Also, if you miss the dolphin show don't get upset, you can still watch the animals in free play without the trainers.
  • Great place to bring kids to. It's has more than enough sea creatures and information to keep you entertain. Also don't miss the dolphin show.
  • There is quite a few tanks and things to see including a dolphin show. The big tank used to have a whale shark but it's gone now so there is perhaps a bit of wow factor missing but my son enjoyed it all the same. It could probably do with more sharks but there's lots to see.
