Buried Shrine Gate, Kagoshima

(3.8/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
Imagine the sheer force of nature at Buried Shrine Gate, an entrance to a Shinto temple buried 2 m (6 ft) under volcanic ash for over a century. The powerful eruption of Mount Sakura in 1914 catapulted ash and pumice 7 km (4.5 mi) into the air, creating a 2 m (6.6 ft) high ash deposit in a single night, and leaving only 1 m (3.3 ft) of the gate still visible above the ground. The lava also covered an entire village of 687 houses, whose roofs stayed visible above the ground. • At first it is difficult to defends. However, you can actually go in and feel the fear of the eruption on the size of the everyday and the scale of eruptions at Sakurajima. Please try to go

  • I would continue to talk about the fear to be buried is certainly smaller Torii, so ash.

  • Further thought as a tourist destination was a lonely place. However, Torii can feel the greatness of the eruption. I think it is worth you see when you go to the Sakura-jima.
