Izumo Taisha Shrine, Izumo

Must see · Religious Site · Tourist Spot
Likely the oldest site of its kind in the country, Izumo Taisha Shrine also represents as one of the most important places of worship in the Shinto religion. You'll walk on extremely ancient ground when visiting the shrine, as the site dates back to at least the 8th century. Despite the temple's long history, the appearance of the main shrine only dates back to the 18th century. The main hall, renovated every few decades, last underwent a major rebuilding in 2013. Pay special attention to the straw ropes hanging over the entrance into the main section of the complex--visitors able to throw and lodge a coin in them can allegedly hope for continued good fortune. • It's quiet big shrine and peaceful. Behind the shrine there is big forest which has lots of shrines. But those are restricted to normal people and can be accessed by priest and monks who is serving in this shrine.
  • Visiting the home of all Japanese Gods is unforgettable. The Shrine was grand and massive with rich historical backgrounds. Walking around the famous power spot calmed me down and left me in awe.
  • Cold, came in late December but still quite beautiful.
  • The is probably the most important temple of Japan! It is the home place of all Gods. Ever year around the time of November these Gods will travel back to this temple (some sort of annual meeting I guess) Very interesting place and plenty to see. There are some details in English but mostly in Japanese with the temple , so be sure to visit the tourist information center and pickup some leaflet in English or your prefer language if you want to understand more about this temple.
  • Beautiful large shrine known to bring good luck for making connections!
