Izumo-taisha, Izumo

(4.5/5 based on 1,300+ reviews on the web)
Likely the oldest site of its kind in the country, Izumo-taisha also represents as one of the most important places of worship in the Shinto religion. You'll walk on extremely ancient ground when visiting the shrine, as the site dates back to at least the 8th century. Despite the temple's long history, the appearance of the main shrine only dates back to the 18th century. The main hall, renovated every few decades, last underwent a major rebuilding in 2013. Pay special attention to the straw ropes hanging over the entrance into the main section of the complex--visitors able to throw and lodge a coin in them can allegedly hope for continued good fortune. • For the first time I visited Izumo Taisha. We went by bus from Izumo-Shi station. 1 to 30 minutes I think what about buses were running. Arrived, had the crab soup first. Izumo Soba shop, several souvenir shops, to Izumo-Taisha Shrine area. I think after the visit take place. Crab soup was made from pine-needle parents. 1 cup of 500 yen. Then approach the shrine. Quite empty because it was a weekday and it was smooth. I also wanted a bit more slowly time would I. Staff made visits shrine could not visit it all in due time. Lots of good memories.

  • It wasn't as I expected, so I thought it's more massive. I felt no bigger than I had imagined, said Japan's shimenawa are seen in the pictures. Was a solemn feeling like the Naiku of Ise Jingu Shrine.
