Himeyuri Peace Museum, Itoman

Commemorating the tragedy of over 200 student nurses, as well as the teachers of two girls’ schools conscripted to take part the 1945 Battle of Okinawa, Himeyuri Peace Museum documents the battle and explains the circumstances behind the victims' death. Tear gas and grenades killed 136 students working in an underground military hospital in the face of invading US troops. The museum features portraits of all of the young victims and has volumes of testimonials and memoirs by 90 survivors, forming part of the popular memory trail on the island. Some 15 km (9 mi) south of Naha, the museum lies 3 km (2 mi) west of the Okinawa Peace Memorial Park. Himeyuri Peace Museum is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Itoman Edition.

  • Many of the exhibits is the site known at the time of the Okinawa situation. This is where the unexploded can remain in its pristine condition.

  • Not only engaged in the resort when you go to Okinawa, I want to go here first. Personally not positive all of the excess anti-base movement in Okinawa the U.S. forces and the SDF will reside rather for peace should be (narrowing the absolute should be)... that stances, but war is absolute opposite. Understand temperature difference relative to the base located between the people of the Mainland and Okinawa and the war comes here, are converted to respect the difference some thought... such a place. Well... more often than not, a contentious opinion I think there are many I don't think were stupid in the people who caused the war, winners or losers as immature people who shout "concerns for the countries to war" I think world public, or caught up in the battle or invasion of Japan, to be convened in the war is no longer coming. Though guarded by military forces of a peaceful world continues for a while I think is very important... in that situation how not to fight or to the Himeyuri peace museum visit. By visiting such facilities but seems is thrust to the right also to to left extreme even the slightest everyone is near the Middle hope was.

  • War is absolute and is not. Have to kill each other, what is left? Mind you and suffer from what one is not. Where was this place is hurting their war with.
