A visit to the sacred complex of Ise Grand Shrine allows you to discover a series of Shinto sacred sites centered on two main temples. The 125 shrines date back to the 4th century BCE and are hugely popular pilgrimage spots, visited by millions of devotees each year. The most visited is the Inner Shrine, or "Naiku," which is traditionally rebuilt every twenty years. As you approach this temple, take a moment to appreciate the peaceful ambience, scenic forested setting, and the simple architecture of the wooden shrine buildings. • We visited this shrine while on a cruise ship excursion from Toba. It is not very far from the port, and definitely worth visiting. Our five-hour excursion from Toba included the Grand Shrine and...  more »

  • Honestly left a lot to be desired. It’s an enormously important place in japan, and Shintoism. If you’re going to go, go for those reasons. The grounds and shrine are beautiful, but don’t compare to other shrines that aren’t so out of the way.
  • Absolutely massive temple complex. A little off the beaten path for foreign visitors, but definitely worth a visit in person. A lot of local traffic but despite the large number of people coming and going the place still manages to be immaculate and serene.
  • The temple is a great place to visit, with many trees around. There is also a souvenir store to buy fortune bags. One the way out of the temple is small street with traditional Japanese style stores and restaurants.
  • It's a nice shrine, but personally I was not overly impressed. Probably I had maxed out on shrines and temples by then. Spacious areal.
  • Need the avoid Japan holiday but rest time to visit should be good. 觀光案內people is nice and quite ok with English
