Futamiokitama Shrine, Ise

3.9
#6 of 19 in Historic Sites in Ise
Religious Site Tourist Spot
Jutting from the sea, two large rocks wedded by thick straw ropes represent Futamiokitama Shrine--a husband and wife rock. Couples frequently come here to pray for a life full of happiness and love. The larger one, 9 m (30 ft) tall, represents the male, while the female boulder stands 4 m (13 ft). Allegedly the ropes date back to the 14th century. Enjoy the landscape of ocean and waves crashing over the rocks, and examine the shoreline's sculptures of hundreds of frogs, dedicated to the Shinto goddess of food. • Most of the thoroughfare was visits to Jinja shrine in Futami litter first. It seems to has sunk off the coast, according to the Billboard Guide to Sarutahiko shrine spiritual stone Torii gate role. Lost back safe and sound, what's, such as return, Gen on the shoulders, a lot of frog statues. Holiday parking lot is crowded, but good looking and seems reasonably runs in a certain amount of time. He took advantage, we can only use of parking if you cannot wait for operates a souvenir shop is 1000 yen. In the souvenir shop more than 2,000 yen souvenir if you purchase the cash back was parking fee 1000 yen.

  • Meoto Iwa rocks beside the shrine. Visit on the set, we recommend, and in the middle of the tourist routes of the Meoto-Iwa ("more, enough to be set is not...). And take your picture only husband and wife rock and the Meoto Iwa rocks over the shrine near the turtle and Nice.

  • Very relaxing. I spent a few hours sitting on the beachfront and putting my toes in the water. It's a very small shrine and the meoto iwa rocks are very small so not worth it for a trip if it's out of your way. It's a nice place to relax on the ocean if you're in the area however.
  • A beautiful place to observe the sunrise and sunset, and also a famous spiritual place to pray for lasting relationships with your loved ones. Especially popular for couples. The rocks tied together with sacred ropes are supposed to symbolize the union of marriage between a married couple.
  • Went here on our honeymoon and it was a perfect spot for us. Not sure it's worth the trek out if you're not coupled up.
  • It's a small shrine and it only takes 20mins to browse.
  • Nice spot and you can take a walk around here.
