Imabari Castle, Imabari

(200+ reviews on the web)
Step back in time and explore the early 17th-century atmosphere at Imabari Castle, one of the three well-known "castles on the sea." Though destroyed by order of the Meiji rulers, the edifice underwent reconstruction in 1980. Observe the citadel's ingenious seawater moat, which can control the water level through use of the tides and a series of sluice gates. As you enter, note the unusual main gate, featuring iron plating and turrets. Climb to the top of the castle for views of the surrounding complex, moat, and cityscape and port beyond. • Very nice place! Superb views and clean surroundings. And you can see their rich history inside the castle.
  • Good view from the top of the castle. It costs 500 yen for adults, and it includes the tower in the center as well as three turrets on the sides of the castle. A nice surprise was a big bird cage by the shrine.
  • Castle on the water. Very nice. Natural museum section, which talks about the nature around the castle, Imabari and Seto Inland Sea in general, is included in the main tower.
