  • Just came back from a very snowy holiday in Madarao. Skiing is pretty good with a variety of runs and good tree courses for the more experienced. If your taking kids and want lessons, do your research...  more »

  • Nice ski area. This place is split into 2 parts. So when buying a ticket you must specify all mountain all day so you can smoothly ski both sides. Else you might get stuck on the other side where you might not want to be. In terms of skiing, it is great. In terms of lodging there is available slope side. But I did not stay here this trip.
  • I didn't get any pow days unfortunately, but did manage to check out the terrain for the entire week I was there. Very unique amongst resorts that the owner has not only opened up off-piste terrain, but has also cut down some trees to help it along. The natural half pipes are amazing, and if you are tired of the official off-piste stuff, the top single chair offers access to some amazing backcountry stuff that I have still lots to explore! One of my favourite resorts in Japan.
  • Hotel was great and it had a nice dinner buffet. Breakfast needed something like pancakes, waffles, or french toast. Also it needed American bacon. The ski slopes were good, but a little boring. Also sometimes the lift was quite far from the slope which was annoying. Overall, good place to visit. Oh and onsen is great.
  • Smaller than Hakuba. But in one sense it make it better. Slopes are varied, good for a family with uneven ski experience. Snowboarding in the forest is very nice. The little center with few restaurant is a very nice change compared to many other Japan Ski resorts.
  • Smaller than others but fun place. Really, really fun. You've got groomed piste, trees runs, more trees, a natural half pipe with you guessed right, TREES! Plus the view from top is simply beautiful. By far this is my favorite resort in Nagano / Niigata area. I've been going there for 4 years by now. I'm an intermediate to advance snowboarder
