Ueno Castle, Iga

3.7
#2 of 44 in Things to do in Iga
Perched on top of a hill and dating back to 1585, Ueno Castle was once the site of a 16th-century three-story castle. Today, find a three-story white-walled structure where inside you'll find a museum featuring items such as a woven hat, a traditional tea jar, and samurai relics. A 30 m (98 ft) wall was built around the original castle during the early 17th century, and since its construction it still holds the record as Japan's tallest castle wall. You can walk around the complex and still find the walls standing strong. Using our custom trip planner, Iga attractions like Ueno Castle can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Beautiful view over the plateau. Beautiful displays of swords and armours and also of old pieces of daily life. The castle itself is also beautiful as it is actually wooden, not a concrete remodel. The price of admittance is more than worth it! The people are also very friendly. Would visit again!
  • Although it’s a reconstructed castle, it still is quite interesting to pay the 500¥ to go through it, since they have several displays of weapons and armor. Unfortunately, signage is in Japanese only. Lovely views from the windows at the top.
  • Great views from the top floors of the castle. I also enjoyed looking at the old samurai weapons and armor.
  • Why don’t you try to come at Autumn season, you will get lots of photos spot
  • Nice Place, you can learn about ninjas here.
