Kushiro Shitsugen National Park, Hokkaido

4.0
#37 of 174 in Nature in Hokkaido
A train ride across the marshes will take you to Kushiro Shitsugen National Park, Japan’s largest undeveloped wetland area, spreading across 269 sq km (104 sq mi). After crossing many steel bridges and wooden planks, you'll reach a strangely shaped metal area--the Kushiro marsh observatory--giving you a panoramic view of the expanse of wetland. Famous for its population of red-crested white cranes, a symbol of Japan, the marsh habitat provides the only wild home for this species, which nearly became extinct early in the 20th century. You can see spotted deer and birds of prey as you hike through the national park, as well as steam-engine spotting or taking a canoe ride. • Using the tourism plan, transportation taxis from Kushiro Airport, went around the wetland. Taxi us by kind and cordial hospitality. Parent-child of the Red-crowned crane had happened to be near the road, all the way back, he went close to! Birds like we was very impressed. Taught various spots of marshland, tell me the features of Kushiro, and very comfortable.

  • It is an interesting place because it houses a very large amount of species of plants and animals. In addition, it has the peculiarity that has been created on the Marsh in Japan (around of 350 square kilometers). When it takes a tourist it is not easy to have the sufficient time to navigate it, and therefore, it is highly recommended to make some travel coming out of some Observatory there in the Park, to get an idea of what this National Park supposed. The vegetation is extraordinary and very abundant and to facilitate the access of visitors have placed wooden pallets to make the visit more enjoyable. It is worth a tour of the interior of the Park and stop at one of the observation points that allow you to see a great expansion of the ground occupied by the Park. Without a doubt, is very good place and that is worth a visit if tourism is being done in the area. Greetings to all travelers

  • Good access from Kushiro station norokko-go sightseeing trains that arrive and depart. Hosooka Observatory views are great, but 1-2 walk to the Nice. I met eyes with wild deer. This is where you can enjoy nature.
