Hikone Castle Museum, Hikone

3.9
Hikone Castle is a Japanese Edo-period castle in the city of Hikone, in Shiga Prefecture. It is considered the most significant historical building in Shiga. Hikone is one of only 12 Japanese castles with the original keep, and one of only five castles listed as a national treasure.HistoryHikone Castle traces its origin to 1603 when Ii Naokatsu, son of the former daimyō Ii Naomasa, ordered its construction. The keep was originally built in 1575, as part of Ōtsu Castle, and was moved to Hikone by the Ii clan. Other parts of the castle were moved from Nagahama Castle. Hikone Castle was completed in 1622. Naokatsu's lands had been taken from him in the interval by the Tokugawa shogunate, and when his brother Naotake assumed control of the area around Ōmi Province, he was able to complete the castle by collecting stones from the former Sawayama Castle. When the Meiji era began in 1868, many castles were scheduled to be dismantled, and only a request from the emperor himself, touring the area, kept Hikone Castle intact. Today it remains one of the oldest original-construction castles in Japan. The main keep of Hikone Castle was designated a National Treasure by the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture in 1952. Hikone Castle also has several parts which are designated Important National Cultural Assets: Umaya (Stable), Tenbin Yagura (Balance Scale Turret), Taikomon Yagura (Drum Gate Turret) and Nishinomaru Sanju Yagura (West Bailey Three-story Turret).

  • After climbing to the Castle Tower of Hikone Castle, featuring the Red of the II family wanted to see to the Museum. Home of the Lord?! is has been reproduced, we could see very interesting. Hikonyan's to meet and it is recommended

  • And bought the ticket of Taga Taisha Shrine and Hikone Castle hikonyan I also went because it comes. First of all, I was surprised is you had to remove their shoes for the first time at the Museum. Once undressed with slippers and all, it was good, but it seems cold winter slippers. I think this should just be improved. Now, that is, exposed by the Golden in the first removal of Hikone screen small it was fantastic. Whether or not it is the treasure of the II family: interested in would be divided like. Noh stage and then actually used and restored omote-goten is gotae. It's quite heavy exhibits and look inside as a whole. Hikone Castle to visit the "hikonyan's waiting" but we recommend that since it can be.

  • The best value tourist attraction even in the castle. There are detailed explanations about the history of Hikone(which said it belonged to Ishida Mitsunari by the way, before the Ii family razed it and rebuilt it), tea rooms, medieval artifacts... and it's clean and well maintained. You might need a good command of Japanese to fully enjoy it though as English introductions are not too thorough.
  • Beautifully tranquil garden and an extensive range of Noh costumes and Samurai swords.
  • historical monument, relax and meditate in silence in the sunlit corridors with a stunning view of peaceful Japanese traditional garden
  • This admission adult 500 yen / person in the Hikone Castle entrance fee is included. No exhibits the history of Hikone Castle in Hikone Castle, so history is not a Museum; Pieces symbolize the Hikone II family ruled in the Museum, arts and crafts and Samurai often exhibit. Particularly memorable is a Noh mask. Noh masks of the rich look out ☆ hotel was air-conditioned for heating and cooling comfort. Also lived in feudal Lord living room and garden, you can also visit the (^ ^) as supplementary information: we recommend that before you see genkyu-en's route on the Castle Museum to look at the.

  • Is not unique to the Museum's special exhibition, as in scale Museum cities of degrees is medium. However, for mainly transmitted to the II family of historical artefacts exhibited, and enjoy deeply the II family and history to it. Know the charm and history of the II family and is limited to the Hikone Castle is still in existence in the Castle exhibited the Museum takes Castle admission and fee (500 yen), but this museum is essential. You can enjoy a corridor-type mansion and gardens of Japan differs from other museums where one reverts omote-goten of the Museum, being built. Way of viewing the exhibits of the Museum or at the end of the Lord of the Palace and the Princess like mood, relax. Even people with disabilities unlike Hikone Castle, easy-to-use feel free to twist is given. Most of the exhibits of Japan for the already mentioned in other languages such as English are few. You'd hear the guides or brochures in many languages at the entrance to. The scale of this museum is about the same as them of mid-sized museum in local cities, and it does not have the display m ethod of exhibits unique to this museum. However, as valuable historical materials of the Ii family are exhibited, if you'd like to know the history of the Ii clan deeply, and you should visit this museum even if it is separate from the admission fee of Hikone castle. One distinctive feature of the other museums is that there are corridor style residences and Japanese gardens, because the Museum was built in the reconstructed palatial home of Ii clan. At the same time you view the exhibits, yo'll be able to enjoy the feelings of the lord and the princess of this castle. This museum has ingenuity that people with disabilities can easily enjoy. On the other hand, the explanation of most exhibitions is written in Japanese. To enjoy in multiple languages such as English, it is better to get a multilingual brochure or accompany a guide.
