  • The best value tourist attraction even in the castle. There are detailed explanations about the history of Hikone(which said it belonged to Ishida Mitsunari by the way, before the Ii family razed it and rebuilt it), tea rooms, medieval artifacts... and it's clean and well maintained. You might need a good command of Japanese to fully enjoy it though as English introductions are not too thorough.
  • It is pretty good. In the elderly, not able to rise to the Hikone Castle, or crowded abandoned people. This is more than enough.

  • If you have already seen the important historical and ethnographic museums, you can skip it. Small but significant Castle Museum, collects in 5 thematic areas family history Ii who during the EDo period (1615-1868) lived and ruled in the castle: samurai armor, Noh masks and costumes, furnishings of the tea ceremony, musical instruments, furniture, documents and manuscripts. You visit in an hour, no flash.
