Enjoy a visit to the complex of Hikone Castle, hailed as being one of the best preserved castles in Japan. The castle, largely intact since its completion in 1622, sits perched on a hilltop overlooking Lake Biwa. Admire the historic building, designated a National Treasure, and climb the stairs to the third floor for panoramic views of the lake and surroundings. While touring the castle premises, you can also pay a visit to the museum to observe an array of relics from the past, or take a walk in the scenic gardens, which boast an ornamental pond and nine bridges. Our Hikone trip itinerary maker makes visiting Hikone Castle and other Hikone attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Because children began to learn of the history was revisited. I think it is better left in the ruins, but here's a good comprehensive exhibits of the museum restored the House and gardens, tourist attractions. Form to complete such points of interest in one area a little bit just souvenirs and meals can also; Museum exhibit of the II family Center and personally, as this kind of level high spectacular. Regretably has little exhibition and want to strengthen a little more English commentary focused on each person of the II family (especially II Naosuke,) and increased realism, that is. Hikonyan's in the area enough to meet, I think.

  • Hikone Castle rampart is one of the respectable, just like my favorite Castle. When you go would be fine, but especially beautiful cherry blossom season. Always go by car from the station near nice train.

  • Nice Castle, lovely place. Quieter than other castles. A short hike up to the castle.
  • The park inside the castle is good to relax ,the view from up amazing and the castle you feel the history in it it.
  • I made a day-trip from Kyoto to Hikone and really enjoyed it. Did not see one western face during the day, not many tourists around. The castle inside is not really interesting, but the whole park and the view from top over the city and Lake Biwa are really nice. Would recommend it.
  • The oldest castle in Japan and it still manages to be personable. Cherry blossom season can be crowded, but the rest of the year other tourists can be sparse. It's not as impressive as, say, Himeji Castle, but it's a far more relaxing, leisurely location.
  • One of the most majestic castles in Japan. The green garden inside the castle is also extraordinarily beautiful
