  • This is a traditional Japanese garden, with a respectable age of 340 years. The simple fact that this garden is still as it was designed earns our respect and invites us to contemplate on our home lan...  more »

  • Not particularly good or bad. For a garden, it definitely is not in one of the top gardens' class like Kenrokuen... The size of the place itself is pretty large, but once you walk in, the tea room in the lake and the castle over the lake are the best views- only views, actually- that you can possibly expect from this place. Moreoever, the overall construction is... well... kind of rough, should I say, for a historic garden. There are no intricate designs or compositions that really 'Wow' you. However, since you came all the way to Hikone to tour the castle, I think you should look around the garden and perhaps, take a break on one of its benches. I give it three stars but still recommend it to any visitor to Hikone castle. But I'd advise against anyone coming here for this garden only, of course.
  • We went to the castle and stopped at the garden only because the ticket price also covered the garden entrance. It turned out to be exceeding our expectations. It's peaceful and pretty. There is a tea ceremony experience room for ¥500 each that's worth trying.
  • Nice garden with a lovely pond and Hikone castle as the backdrop. There was a fair amount of reconstruction going on during our visit.
  • Just beautiful. You sure won't regret visiting this garden!
