Mount Misen, Hatsukaichi

4.6
#2 of 79 in Parks in Hiroshima Prefecture
Climb to the top of Mount Misen, the highest peak on Miyajima island. Choose from three hiking trails taking different routes to the summit, the longest of which offers the most scenic views and takes a couple of hours to complete. You can also take the ropeway lift to a certain point near the peak, and enjoy the scenery from the air along the way. Trek through primeval forest and see various plants and rock formations, or pay a visit to the observatory on the summit for panoramic views of the sea, and even Hiroshima on a clear day. • While at Miyajima, besides the Tori in the sea, get up to Mt Misen. For the fit, you might want to hike up else take the ropeway up and hike down. Great views once you are up there. BE very conscious ...  more »
  • Well developed trail to beautiful viewing point. I started early in the morning, and there were no other people on the trail. Very tranquil and scenic. Highly recommended.  more »
  • Even if it is headed to the Summit, from the Miyajima ropeway Terminal (to climb from the foot that is not either! ) Was hard to climb. Also climbed slightly in the fast lane from the ropeway Terminal took about 20 minutes. Once off the top of the mountain cable car terminal and terrain will climb again to the top of Mt. Misen, also increased with the struggle. Want to stay on a moderate climbing such threatening words, sorry, but you want to go to the Summit, "killing me". "Tourism (Itsukushima Shinto shrine, etc.) or I should go, Summit", I said, meaning it would not face at easy to think. I think we do that until the "authentic mountain appearance". Some simple climbing come wearing the shoes for walking and easy climbing shoes usually wears out, dressed and equipped enough. The trail, except for some walking easy. At the Summit, on bare rocky terrain 360-degree vantage point was. Observation tower was being built. Which came in succession and during this season in 11-late weekend I went (Miyajima itself of) tourists and climbers with very often. Cannot ride now for ropeway was a weekend in 20 minutes and had to wait for about an hour. And the people who eat lunch at the Summit ascent at lunchtime was more. Struggling to climb after lunch (weather was nice especially) Sonny was watching people eat lunch while I would. Recommend this nether potty at the end station at especially in the cable car, to the Summit, no toilet.

Where to stay in Hatsukaichi

With its historic temples and shrines, scenic coastal areas, and wealth of inland trekking potential, Hatsukaichi has a number of accommodations to complement the vast array available in neighboring Hiroshima. Many visitors do decide to stay in the larger city to the east, but if you're particularly set on staying in Hatsukaichi, you won't be disappointed by the choice. Look close to the sea for the more upmarket rooms offering views of the bay, and on some of the narrower side streets for budget-friendly guesthouses and hostels. The same goes for the island just offshore. With its shrine and history, many choose to stay on Itsukushima, close to the Miyajima shrine.
