(200+ reviews on the web)
Zoo / Aquarium Nature / Park
At Miyajima Aquarium, see 13,000 creatures of 350 distinct species from the Seto-inland Sea. Imported animals like otters, penguins, and sea lions perform entertaining shows, and feeding times of various residents also draw a crowd--particularly the manta rays and turtles. In the first floor, kids can interact with starfish, sea cucumbers, and other gentle creatures in the tidal pool. Highlights include an area dedicated to Kabuto-gani, a horseshoe crab that has not changed for a million years. Information boards are provided in English, and the aquarium has all the necessary facilities, including a cafeteria, restrooms, and picnic area. A visit to Miyajima Aquarium represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Hatsukaichi vacation route planner to plot your vacation.

  • As always the Japanese do a very good job in making an informative setup. Small aquarium but interesting fish and other sea animals. Included is a sea lion show.  more »

  • We loved it. Visited on a Friday 1.5 hour before closing and it was quite empty and just about enough time to enjoy everything even if stopping everywhere. The larger aquariums especially are quite elaborate and smartly done. A bit pricey but totally worth it especially if this is your only aquarium in Japan like it was for us. There is some English signage, many details are Japanese only but I suppose Wikipedia can fill in the details.
  • Compared to aquariums in Europe this seems very reasonably priced - 1400 yen for an adult, and has always been reasonably quiet whenever I've been. The gift shop is pretty good too - we loved the talking penguins.
  • Small. Some of the exhibits were way to small for some the the animals it was sad and other ones had no effort put into them. It was nice but ehh over all
  • Compact and clean. Long walk from ferry. Kid oriented.
  • Nobody should go there... is so cruel for the poor animals. All the places where the animals are in captivity must be closed! Seriously, do you want to teach your children this things? Is not fair for the animals, is not fair for the kids
