  • This is a great day trip from Hiroshima - very beautiful shrines, temples and of course the view of the floating O Torii. That being said, while the food throughout Japan is generally of outstanding q...  more »
  • The place is worth from Hiroshima. There are many deer in Nara, the environment with water, deer and temples is very, very nice. The penalty is that we saw it the last day and we were already a bit saturated with the same images, but is the nicest thing for my taste on the journey to Japan.

  • Ever tasted a Miyajima curry oyster bread or bun?? Purchased one at Big Set for 400 yen ( app $A4.80 ) during the weekend Miyajima Oyster Festival. It had good curry spices and it tasted good with 2 oysters in it. Do try one, when you are in Miyajima. You will love it. Yummy.
  • Amazing island located within the Hiroshima prefecture that houses the well-known Itsukushima shine, a UNESCO world heritage. Access to the island is via the ferry service operated by JR. From the main island, you need to first get to Miyajima ferry pier which is located closer to the Miyajimaguchi station. The ferry ride will cost 180 Yen per trip. There are about 1400 dears in this island and some of them lives in the open area roaming around with people. Plenty of souvenir shops and restaurants are located here but almost all of them concludes their business by 6 PM maximum.
  • Nice small island, give time to explore and eat oysters and unagi(eel) ... theres a couple of things to do ... small shop and more food Deer Sighting ...
  • We only had half a day to explore the island since we were only in Hiroshima for a day. We stopped by here to look at the great tori of the Itsukushima Shrine. There were also plenty of deer around the island, grazing at the food left behind by people. The cableway was closed when we got there (around 1630) so missed a few of the things to see on top of Mt. Misen. There were a lot of shops and restaurants but most of them were closed when we left around 1730. Would be quite an experience to stay the night here if you have the time, to see more of the island and the great tori at different times of day/night.
  • It's really a great place to visit if you are near Hiroshima. If you have a Japan rail pass the ferry fare is free.
