  • This is a fun place to see traditional Japanese shrines and explore the vast culture of Japan. A cool feature about this place, is that there are many wild deer and monkeys that you are able to get up close pictures with, and even touch them! (Don't touch monkeys) there is a street with many gift shops and restaurant that you may visit, and I highly recommend that you do. It is one place you do not want to miss out on if you're visiting japan.
  • Miyajima is a beautiful island to walk around and shop from . The delicious Moji stuffed with bean paste is a must have. The huge iconic Tori gate is a lovely photo op . Do take the cable car for great views on the top. Try to walk down if possible. It's a one hour walk but very picturesque in the forest on a clear day. It may be slippery so take care. There are many deer on the island below. They are aggressive and want to be fed so watch out if you have food... They will surely want a bite!
  • Beautiful Island with some fantastic hiking trails. Small shopping village was a treat offering a variety of places to eat and purchase different keepsakes. The main shrine is amazing, I caught it at low tide but I would have thought at high tide it would be brilliant to see.
  • A world heritage. Must see! Leave the main trails and go a little up the hill for some peaceful walks through green forest and ancient trails, hidden shrines and beautiful nature. The ferry to miyajima is free if you have the JR tourist pass! Other than this little entrance fees may apply for some of the shrines.
  • Really love this place. If you have time and energy take the long route up the mountain. The forest is beautiful and climbing up the broken stairs, past big boulders and dense forest areas, feels a little bit adventurous.

Where to stay in Hatsukaichi

With its historic temples and shrines, scenic coastal areas, and wealth of inland trekking potential, Hatsukaichi has a number of accommodations to complement the vast array available in neighboring Hiroshima. Many visitors do decide to stay in the larger city to the east, but if you're particularly set on staying in Hatsukaichi, you won't be disappointed by the choice. Look close to the sea for the more upmarket rooms offering views of the bay, and on some of the narrower side streets for budget-friendly guesthouses and hostels. The same goes for the island just offshore. With its shrine and history, many choose to stay on Itsukushima, close to the Miyajima shrine.
