  • On this island can be reached by small boat, even though the island is forbidden to be born and die. When from the small Pier walk along the promenade in the direction of sintoitskogo sanctuary, you meet deers. From afar visible red Torii, which are in the water, and only at low tide, you can walk up to their base and make a wish. The first sanctuary on this place was built in the 6th century and was dedicated to the daughters of the God Susanoo-but Mikoto. In subsequent centuries the structure of this temple complex suffered destruction many times. It is known that the gate to the complex and ritual sanctuaries were present in the XII century. The complex includes several buildings of the sanctuary of the white-red colour, mounted on wooden stilts and connected with each other by roofed passages. From these buildings to the island leads the wooden bridge, decorated with carved patterns. There are halls intended for worship, purification and offering victims an outdoor playground on which to perform ritual dances. The Treasury holds more than four thousand antiques, scrolls, weapons, porcelain and other items donated to the sanctuary at different times. And at low tide, below, at the bottom of the Gulf, seen herons gather fodder obnazhivshegosja from the bottom of the sea of Japan.

Where to stay in Hatsukaichi

With its historic temples and shrines, scenic coastal areas, and wealth of inland trekking potential, Hatsukaichi has a number of accommodations to complement the vast array available in neighboring Hiroshima. Many visitors do decide to stay in the larger city to the east, but if you're particularly set on staying in Hatsukaichi, you won't be disappointed by the choice. Look close to the sea for the more upmarket rooms offering views of the bay, and on some of the narrower side streets for budget-friendly guesthouses and hostels. The same goes for the island just offshore. With its shrine and history, many choose to stay on Itsukushima, close to the Miyajima shrine.
