One of the largest and most popular ski complexes in Japan, Hakuba village hosted the 1998 Olympic Winter Games. Nested in the Northern Alps of Nagano region, the complex features 10 ski centers, including the famous Happoone being, all offering top-class skiing and snowboarding. With a variety of slopes, the place offers lanes for both beginners and advanced skiers. Of the Olympic facilities, Hakuba Ski Jumping Stadium remains in use, and you can visit an interesting memorial center dedicated to the Olympic village. After hitting the slopes, warm up in a number of hot springs, making your skiing experience all the more pleasurable.   • Good facilities and a beautiful place to visit for boarding or skiing. One negative... the place is quite spread out, there are busses around, but can be quite a pain for the amount of people around.  more »
  • We visited Hakuba mid February to snowboard. It was a 1.5 hour Shinkansen train ride (to Nagano from Tokyo) plus a 1.5 hour bus ride from Nagano. Very easy to get to. The snow was plentiful, the area ...  more »
