  • A spectacular volcanic mountain that is dormant but still spews sulphuric fumes and generates internal heat contributing to local hotsprings. We were not able to view Mt Fuji on this trip but the...  more »
  • This is fun to get up and see. Steam still gushes from the ground and you can see yellow sulfur all around. The tourist shop at the top sells black eggs (basically hard boiled eggs that purportedly...  more »
  • While dwarfed by nearby Mt Fuji, Mt Hakone is still an amazing mountain and a geological wonder taking into consideration the natural attractions that were created out of it’s volcanic activities...  more »
  • Very cool experience. You have many options to get around this area the pirate ship ferry is just a really cool twist for one of the legs back to catch a bus back toward Odawara. The cable car lines can get quite long especially on the weekend. Keep in mind some locals actually use this for getting around. I would strongly suggest you plan on spending more than 1 day exploring this area otherwise you are just going to spend the entire day doing a loop without much exploration. It was very surprising to meet so many Canadians, Americans and Australians in this area during the stay.
  • Nice view from the top station.
  • After the cruise reached its stop, we took the Hakone Komagatake Ropeway, which is actually an old cable car, to the top of the Komagatake mountain. There we saw the standing Shinto shrine Hokonejinja Mototsumiya (箱根神社元宫). This was one of the most exciting parts of the whole tour. While walking or running into the gust, people were frolicking and yelling, seeing Mount Fuji's snow cover in distance. Cold weather suppressed the vegetation in hibernation, colored in yellow. The advantage point presents a panoramic view, seeing not only the Lake Ashi but also the Pacific ocean to the east.
  • The views from the summit of Mt. Hakone to Mt. Fuji are spectacular and it is worth the time while in Japan to go and see them both the ride on the cable gondola is worth the trip on it's own with fabulous scenic views.
  • Great view of majestic Mt Fuji. The cable car brings tourists to the top of the mountain to enjoy the magnificence of Mt Fuji. Lots of phototaking opportunities. Best to bring along long lens or zoom lens.
