Hakone Sekisho, Hakone-machi

2.1
#3 of 12 in Historic Sites in Hakone-machi
A carefully restored Edo-period traffic checkpoint, Hakone Sekisho once monitored a strategic Tokaido road between Tokyo and Kyoto. Originally built in 1619, the current wooden structure was one of the biggest of all 53 Tokugawa-period checkpoints, focusing mainly on weapons trafficking. Strategically located, the spot also offers great views of Lake Ashi. A great attraction for history buffs, the museum features an impressive collection of matchlocks, great bows, spears, mannequins, documents and other accessories, giving an insight into Japanese politics at the time. You can reach the site easily from Odawara station, but you won't find any onsite parking. • Some famous Hakone checkpoint is restored, so little blessing. And the barrier itself is smaller than I thought, so quickly that ends in between. You can understand, or what was the Hakone checkpoint and go to the Museum in memory of the building. Barrier 30: in the Museum and 70 much attitude and satisfaction high. The barrier and the Museum admission ticket is common.

  • Clichéd facility thought tourism facilities, but were actually used in the Edo period, from where it was completely restored and the atmosphere of the time barrier fully. Volunteer men detailed questions were answered, I was studying. You can see Mt. Fuji from the portrait constructed on the Hill is also good. Come in good walking shoes!

  • Speaking of Hakone sekisho popularity is very good. But here is a clean checkpoint, unable to feel the history.

Where to stay in Hakone-machi

A getaway close to the capital, Hakone-machi offers a good range of accommodations, with a particular emphasis on luxury and upmarket hotels. Spa resort-style hotels, often with extensive views of the iconic volcano, sit in the main tourist areas, with their spa facilities using naturally warmed waters from the hot springs around the area. The more densely populated areas to the east house a good number of simple guesthouses and hostels. Staying in Tokyo and taking day trips remains an option for many visitors.
