Hakone Museum of Art, Hakone-machi

4.2
Soak in the local culture through a range of Japanese pottery and ceramics pieces at Hakone Museum of Art, a building set in the midst of crafted gardens. Ranging from prehistoric to early modern period, the collection gives you a good overview the craft, particularly medieval Japanese ceramics. Ritual terra-cotta clay figures, marked as a national treasure, as well as flamed earthenware jars showcase the skills of craftspeople through the centuries. Part of the museum complex also features gardens with trees, moss, bamboo, and stones; and a tea house tops the garden area. The location, accessible by cable car, also provides a mountain view. • Very beutiful Japanese garden with green moss. You can drink Japanese old style tea.
  • Hakone museum of art has magmificent moss park. Incredible both in spring and in Autumn.
  • Beautiful and big Japanese style garden is very nice and chilling. You can fancy a cup of matcha tea in the cafe (but it's NOT tea ceremony) in the middle of the garden.
  • If you are interested in ancient items, this is the place you should visit
  • We went in nov n managed to see The Sekirakuen Garden. It's a really nice garden. Took a lot of pics. Can b crowded but no problem taking pics as the people there r friendly. Just stand aside n wait for our turn if we want to take pic at that particular spot. Recommended place to visit in Hakone.

Where to stay in Hakone-machi

A getaway close to the capital, Hakone-machi offers a good range of accommodations, with a particular emphasis on luxury and upmarket hotels. Spa resort-style hotels, often with extensive views of the iconic volcano, sit in the main tourist areas, with their spa facilities using naturally warmed waters from the hot springs around the area. The more densely populated areas to the east house a good number of simple guesthouses and hostels. Staying in Tokyo and taking day trips remains an option for many visitors.
