Trappistine Monasteries, Hakodate

3.3
Visit Japan's first Catholic convent at Trappistine Monasteries. Established in 1898, construction finished on the current building in 1927, culminating in a distinctly European architectural style, with both Gothic and Romanesque features. A number of information panels around the grounds detail the history of the site and the story of Catholicism in the country, though entrance to the building itself is not permitted. Eighty nuns live a self-sufficient life on the site, selling sweets to make a living, so pick up some of the sweet treats available, including Madeleines and butter candies. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes by bus page Hakodate railway station platform 4, which is every 30 minutes during the summer. Take a walk for about 15 minutes due to a partially open outside only.

It is a monastery situated on the Hill of Hakodate city. It is a street, a House with a large garden. Thoroughly clean premises, and was a very sacred place. Nuns corner, like the Museum, a modest living according to the precepts of breathing was so come through. But many people held the impression of a vast site located in Hokkaido, so I think you can see, the area is not very large, so better not expect too much?

Church was a "monastery". To the commandment in Christian (Catholic) sister and father are pretty tough in training and gym training. It's a kind of Mt. koya and Hiei of Japan. Trappistine this Hakodate located accounted for a big part of that Church.

Where to stay in Hakodate

Look close to the main train station for the majority of accommodations in Hakodate. The large city offers a great deal of variety when it comes to places to stay, with the downtown area featuring everything from chain hotels, to luxury boutiques, to dormitory-style lodgings in youth hostels. A cluster of particularly well-maintained hotels and guesthouses with onsite "onsen" (traditional Japanese spas) sits just to the west of Nezaki Park, with many rooms offering extensive views of the sea, or the canals that make their way inland.
