Motomachi, Hakodate

4.3
#2 of 9 in Neighborhoods in Hokkaido
Neighborhood Historic Walking Area
Take a stroll through the streets of Motomachi, a neighborhood displaying a strong Western influence in its cuisine and stores. Centering around a five-block-long shopping street, the neighborhood started to develop its cosmopolitan style during the Meiji era, when the number of foreign residents drastically increased. Shops and businesses opened to cater to the tastes of those arriving from across Europe, including German bakeries, French chocolatiers, and European-style tailors that still operate to this day. Take a look at the sweet treats and clothes on offer and choose something to take away with you. Make Motomachi a part of your Hakodate vacation plans using our Hakodate vacation builder.

  • The city itself is not big, you can walk. I'm a bit of a hill in the middle of a tough local fitness. I've been at night, and turned on the lights in the building, but by and large you can freak out the dark.

  • This is some enchanted loves to Hakodate. This town is somehow attraction for travelers. How many times you visit bores. And whenever I visit the new discovery. And that's where the school three years ago from Kanagawa Prefecture, was sixth. There's four seasons each in different towns! In the gentle sunlight of spring and original feeling to walk around town very heart happiness becomes full! Yahata Hill traveler walks on the way, visit this city is always pointing a camera is very nice location, such as the Church of each different. Motomachi Park, I walked alone this place u-which I love. In why not take tee times on the way to going to the Park, to savor the journey shall we?! Hakodate Park from heading to the Bay area in the soothing sea breeze blowin' Ko-Su is very easy on tired legs. If you add from Hakodate station original when heading to the town from the Busta - bus terminal in front of the original town. In the Bay area around issue ropeway Mae is useful. (210 yen)

Where to stay in Hakodate

Look close to the main train station for the majority of accommodations in Hakodate. The large city offers a great deal of variety when it comes to places to stay, with the downtown area featuring everything from chain hotels, to luxury boutiques, to dormitory-style lodgings in youth hostels. A cluster of particularly well-maintained hotels and guesthouses with onsite "onsen" (traditional Japanese spas) sits just to the west of Nezaki Park, with many rooms offering extensive views of the sea, or the canals that make their way inland.
