  • Local fish market but full of tourist. Because this reason, all retail sell commercial product with not cheap and local price. Nothing special. Place us dirty and not many retail. Don't try the squid ...  more »
  • Morning market filled with restaurants, shops and trade Panel, the sea. Seafood, fish, shrimp, shellfish, squid, both large. In and around the market, with restaurants, shops and many others. Tasty.

  • I visited swing about 10 years. Once candy without the hustle and bustle of the next, the storefront is free so the owner tobacco while Nighthawk was call out to tourists. That may be one of or.

  • It's another nice place to visit in Hokkaido. I recommend to try both the street food (fruit, some Japanese snack, and seafood) and eat in a restaurant. The market was not so big, but the good thing about it is you can feel the atmosphere and see how's the life of locals here in Hakodate going. The price of seafood is a bit high. But it's fresh and worth trying.
  • This is one of the places where you can get the freshest, liveliest, least commercialised seafood. They may be spruced up for tourist shopping, but the food is not misrepresented nor they force you to buy anything. Honest hard work, sincere heart and discounts offered when you are friendly enough. 10/10 would come back for seafood again.
  • May be smaller than you imagine it to be but be sure to check out the alleys around the morning market building and food court itself for more vendors, restaurants, and experiences. The best time to arrive may be after 8 or 9am (when there are more people and crowds to give a livelier atmosphere as otherwise you may find it rather "dead" or "desolate" and thus underwhelming to disappointing. Recommend the vendor with the sweet corn and local cantaloupe. At time of this review, the former is 200 yen while there are various prices for individual slices of the latter up to 500 yen. Highly recommend the former while the latter may be underwhelming for its price if you've had sweet cantaloupe before for cheaper (then again, the same could be said of the former too...).
  • You can a bowl of rice with fish roe for 500 yen at restaurant upstairs. And the smell of fresh cured fish just invites you at the market. There's a dry and wet section building. And the alley with some shops and melon. Be sure to visit all :)
  • You must catch the live squid, if you dare to eat it raw as sashimi.. it's really yummy. In end Self the squids are twice the size of those in May. I also recommend that you walk the whole market and go to the restaurants area for breakfast. There is a sushi restaurant that has $350¥ fatty tuna! It was so yummy I had 3 on my own while my family was shopping in the market...

Where to stay in Hakodate

Look close to the main train station for the majority of accommodations in Hakodate. The large city offers a great deal of variety when it comes to places to stay, with the downtown area featuring everything from chain hotels, to luxury boutiques, to dormitory-style lodgings in youth hostels. A cluster of particularly well-maintained hotels and guesthouses with onsite "onsen" (traditional Japanese spas) sits just to the west of Nezaki Park, with many rooms offering extensive views of the sea, or the canals that make their way inland.
