Goryokaku Park, Hakodate

(4.1/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
Visit the historic site of Goryokaku Park, a former fortress in the shape of a five-pointed star. Built in the 1850s, the fort owes its curious shape to Ayasaburo Takeda, who designed it to optimize defence and gun placement. Roam the fort complex, a public park since 1914, and take a relaxing walk along the moat, lined with lush cherry blossom trees. Climb to the top of the 100 m (328 ft) tall observation tower to enjoy panoramic views of the fort and its surroundings. A visit to Goryokaku Park represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Hakodate vacation route planner to plot your vacation.

  • Understand shape and look at from goryokaku Tower while in Park. There attractions such as ruins, moats and fences, green is pretty good. I saw some people walking dogs in the moat along the way, was an idyllic time. I think I can go different is because it is the difference between the high and low, good walking shoes.

  • Hokkaido Hakodate is one of Sakura that bloom early and the goryokaku Park is a popular city spot. Across the bridge to get into the Park, Digger, enters. Shape of the goryokaku Park is star-shaped, has taken around and digging around. For the cherry blossoms are planted in the shape of stars, the cherry blossoms in full bloom time is really overwhelming. Sakura was best at night is lit up the whole night, reflected in the water of the moat. More times I cut the shutter of a camera. It was really beautiful!

  • Finished blooming earlier than usual was in blossom, cherry. I think this was disappointing, but to explore the parks. The star-shaped Castle is a must see.

  • A nice park and great for a stroll or picnic. There are 6 "sister cities" worldwide due to the similar style of European fort architecture. Hakodate is a nice city as well.
  • Spectacular when the Sakura are open. Japan's first western style fortress is worth the visit, with the park itself free to visit, and a paltry fee to enter the restored administrative buildings which house a museum and a considerable amount of information. English translations of most plaques are present throughout.
  • If I lived in this area, this is where I would like to come and do my morning run every day. Beautiful.
  • beautiful castle/park. worth a visit if u are around the area
  • I stopped by new year's day after the family trip. Is unbearable in the late Tokugawa period like so you can feel the entire Castle and walk along the moat. Location so no problem no matter how excited children run around without the stress accumulated in, no doubt this is good.
