4.0
#3 of 37 in Historic Sites in Hakodate
See a blend of Western and Japanese styles in the architecture of 旧函館区公会堂 - Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward, an early 20th-century assembly hall. The building's design stands in testament to the growth in foreign trade enjoyed during the Meiji period, with the building--constructed in 1910, towards the close of the Meiji period--combining Japanese arabesque details with broadly European art nouveau features. Take a tour of the museum to see many artifacts related to the history of the city, while also admiring the building itself, inside and out. While walking around Motomachi we passed by this historical building. Looks nice from outside. Well kept. Didn't go in as we didn't think it was worth paying. Spent like 10 minutes walking outside of ...  more »

When we walked along in this area, we liked this building the least. It's very touristy with many people just taking photos of it and at the time they sold tickets for concerts and meals. To me, it se...  more »

The colorful European-style building, across the street from town park, just a few minutes walk of the old British Consulate. Saxophone and the yellow is also a drastic color scheme. American colonial architecture was completed in 1910, was there a Japanese-style also incorporated, and also endless interest as a building festooned Greek Corinthian style of decoration on the pillars. Charges apply. Progress in, to visit the hotel. Is the great Hall on the second floor. I said that is still used in concerts. And when royalty visited the room. Furniture as well as view the remains of that era. And if it lands on the balcony of the second floor, the front spread Hakodate Bay. It is outside the building also in seeing plenty of attractions. Also in the picture view from Motomachi Park.

This is a grand and stately building. When I walked through this museum, I could imagine myself being a noblewoman in the early 20th century. In fact, you can even rent costumes and dress like a noble person and walk the building. The view from the balcony was very nice. I really enjoyed visiting this place.

A beautiful building at Hakodate area. This is one of the largest historical building. Most beautiful without the snows.

Excellent, wearing costumes, good experience. However, the reception staff is horrible and felt bad last time we went 4:30, 4:20. Certainly "Wow!, now I'm-" that I often over takes. But you know we return 4:45 the last deadline is five. Time was tight. I.e. are you guys time with paid work in translation. Here are pay and enjoy the clean, well-bad response. Does not change regardless of the size of the pants. Reply not bad the first match, said Bon voyage not!, of lack of motivation. Is not what work experience for junior high school student who is better? Agerenai more than one star is good laughs as well as such in a Spartan, but is is right, at least I as a job.

Building on the amazing art, preserved. However, as others have written, middle-aged male staff was awful. Fee only after staring that said sarcasm. Attitude problem do not mind per. Are of Hakodate memories should not stained if not better off

Look close to the main train station for the majority of accommodations in Hakodate. The large city offers a great deal of variety when it comes to places to stay, with the downtown area featuring everything from chain hotels, to luxury boutiques, to dormitory-style lodgings in youth hostels. A cluster of particularly well-maintained hotels and guesthouses with onsite "onsen" (traditional Japanese spas) sits just to the west of Nezaki Park, with many rooms offering extensive views of the sea, or the canals that make their way inland.
