Sumiyoshi Shrine, Fukuoka

4.0
Traverse the iconic and supposedly spiritually cleansing bridge at Sumiyoshi Shrine, the city's iconic shrine. One of the oldest in the country, it probably dates back to 211 CE, a flagship of a network of some 2,000 Sumiyoshi shrines nationwide. The main shrine represents the oldest example of Sumiyoshi-zukuri architecture, characterized by a straight, uncomplicated roof, gabled entrance, and simple vermillion-and-white interior. Head to the intricately rendered gardens for a peaceful spot to relax and reflect, watching the koi and terrapins in the pond. It is easy to visit is located near Fukuoka station location. Oldest Sumiyoshi shrine in the shrine are designated national treasures. Is worth a look! Now, invigorating feeling walking precincts and Ebisu, and Sumo wrestler statues, there seems a lot of blessings!

Where to stay in Fukuoka

As the largest city on the island, a hub of commerce, transport, and tourism, and a base for exploration of the wider region, Fukuoka offers plenty of accommodations to choose from. The most established hotels lie in Chuo Ward, the district closest to the port and on the western bank of the Naka River. Standard and luxury options abound in the this area and surrounding districts, offering a range of additional facilities to suit all tastes and budgets. Budget-conscious travelers will be pleased to find hostels and guesthouses throughout the city, but again, primarily in this central area.
