Sumiyoshi Shrine, Fukuoka

(4/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Traverse the iconic and supposedly spiritually cleansing bridge at Sumiyoshi Shrine, the city's iconic shrine. One of the oldest in the country, it probably dates back to 211 CE, a flagship of a network of some 2,000 Sumiyoshi shrines nationwide. The main shrine represents the oldest example of Sumiyoshi-zukuri architecture, characterized by a straight, uncomplicated roof, gabled entrance, and simple vermillion-and-white interior. Head to the intricately rendered gardens for a peaceful spot to relax and reflect, watching the koi and terrapins in the pond. • It is a lovely shrine. Staff of the Office staff, feels good. Couple wearing kimono wedding ceremony as given. Also, because it was like a ring, Sumo can? Would love to see. Entering from the South is train and bus stations at the entrance!

  • A slight detour through this shrine while walking from Hakata to Tenjin won't go astray. This shrine is modest for Japan, but reasonably large for Fukuoka city. I have to give it a 5 stars, mainly because I was married here. So I keep coming back as a reminder and just because it's so serene and well placed. As a tourist, you know you'll need to walk the Tonkotsu Ramen off anyway.... just be sure you come through here on a sunny day.
  • Very easily accessible by local bus. You need to go to Hakata Bus terminal and it is a 10 min walk. A very peaceful place. A must visit if you happen to be in Fukuoka.
  • One of my favorite shrine in Fukuoka. Stop by and enjoy the contrast of red of the shrine, torii(鳥居) and inari(稲荷) and green of trees!
  • nice place but it's raining.
  • Free parking available. Nokyo-Sho is the three Sumiyoshi shrine, Ebisu shrine, Inari Shrine. One of 300 yen. Overnight pines, ancient guardian statues (given the power in the shape of the creases in the Palm of your hand is touching), Ebisu statue is being presented as a power spot (depending on where you touch a worshipper. Face. Safe home and hungry. Illness flee, snapper. Invite luck and prosperity, arms. Traffic safety and skills) is. Chikuzen country ichi-no-miya, Japan three major one of the Sumiyoshi. There are about 1,800 years of history, has said the shrine in Sumiyoshi shrine in the country's first. And said that "Sumiyoshi-zukuri" shrine, taking a special form of the oldest shrine building history. Chilled out 3-40 minutes before the wedding ceremony take what I have, (Shinto-style weddings like that) so calm and happy.
