Nokonoshima Island, Fukuoka

Enjoy a relaxing day out in nature with family and friends on Nokonoshima Island, enjoying views of Fukuoka city across Hakata Bay. A 10-minute ferry ride from Meinohama, you can find a perfect barbeque or picnic spot in vast grass expanses overlooking the sea. Rapeseed, daffodils, mustard, red-blossomed plums, azaleas, oranges, lemon, corn poppies and, of course, cherries, take their turn to blossom year-round. Choose between shops and restaurants on the island. Nokonoshima Island is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, Fukuoka Edition.

  • Island Park on the ancient island is a good place to see different flowers throughout the year. When we visited at the end of October, we were able to see a large part of the cosmos, and then lined the scenery of the ocean, and it was a very picturesque scene.

Where to stay in Fukuoka

As the largest city on the island, a hub of commerce, transport, and tourism, and a base for exploration of the wider region, Fukuoka offers plenty of accommodations to choose from. The most established hotels lie in Chuo Ward, the district closest to the port and on the western bank of the Naka River. Standard and luxury options abound in the this area and surrounding districts, offering a range of additional facilities to suit all tastes and budgets. Budget-conscious travelers will be pleased to find hostels and guesthouses throughout the city, but again, primarily in this central area.
