Maizuru Park, Fukuoka

4.1
#5 of 34 in Parks in Fukuoka
Nature / Park
Take a walk through Maizuru Park to appreciate pristine natural scenery and see a castle from the Edo period. During the cherry blossom season, the park wears a light pink shade, which creates an impression of walking among the clouds. Walk around to see the castle's rocky walls, towers, and the moat. For a slightly different experience, come by after dark, when the park lights up with artificial illumination and provides a romantic setting for a late walk. • To say what the cherry blossom season is great. It is one of the charm also think charm of Fukuoka City is condensed in the compact, but away from the city, just to be a nice place to be.

  • Such a beautiful place to go for a walk. Very nice colours and the smell in the air is charismatic. Come alone or with people, their views and the peace, will be enjoyable.  more »
  • Not the cherry blossom season, nor Fireworks season, so there is really nothing much to see there. Just looked at the ruins of Fukuoka City on the periphery--can see is about seven or eight meters high wall. Just like the Park's name.

  • Linked to Ohori park via aa nice flowery entrance. Definitely more geared toward outdoor activity, as the nice grass flat is perfect for field sports. The surrounding pathways are unpaved, so it gets a little tricky after rain (which was the case our first visit there), and last time there was a large marching band practicing and kicking up a large amount of dust. Lots of stalls in this area and picnics during Hanami season. All in all a nice park, however no different from a large park in any other place.
  • Nice spot to enjoy plum blossom in the end of January to mid of February. This park is also the site of Fukuoka castle ruins.
  • A place to visit during the spring when the Sakura trees are in full bloom. After a tiring walk relax at the conveniently located Starbucks besides Ohori Park.
  • Very large park with the ruins of the castle grounds you can visit and walk among freely.
  • Beautiful and huge park. Watching the sakura petals was awesome.

Where to stay in Fukuoka

As the largest city on the island, a hub of commerce, transport, and tourism, and a base for exploration of the wider region, Fukuoka offers plenty of accommodations to choose from. The most established hotels lie in Chuo Ward, the district closest to the port and on the western bank of the Naka River. Standard and luxury options abound in the this area and surrounding districts, offering a range of additional facilities to suit all tastes and budgets. Budget-conscious travelers will be pleased to find hostels and guesthouses throughout the city, but again, primarily in this central area.
