Considered the most important religious site in the area, Kushida Shrine dates back to 757 and features a thousand-year-old gingko tree as its shade. If you visit during mid-July, you'll have a chance to participate in the largest festival in Fukuoka, Yamakasa Gion Matsuri.   • Kushida Shrine is an old shrine located in the middle of Fukuoka city which I believe has been preserved very well. I didn't go during the festival season, however I'd imagine it would be busy!  more »

  • It is a beautiful site but if you don't speak Japanese you miss out on the actual meaning of most things. There signs in English but just on a few specific things.  more »

  • Come here right in the morning of hakata dontaku 2017. Very lively place, accompanied by taiko drum rolling, the parade took place also. Recommended
  • huge shrine. peaceful place. great for prayers and visitation.
  • This is the famous shrine in Fukuoka. Always crowded with worshiper. Very near kamikawabatamchi shopping street which is sort of good , food and Japanese traditional souvenirs and known as tourist center , also near Canal city.
  • sacred and peaceful. I left before the July "山笠" festival started. But still can feel the passion of the folks
