Enoshima Shrine, Fujisawa

4.0
#1 of 14 in Historic Sites in Fujisawa
A complex of three temples dedicated the goddess of knowledge, Enoshima Shrine dates back to the 5th century and remains one of the area's major Shinto sites. You'll have to climb steep stairs to reach the shrines, so wearing comfortable shoes is advised. The view from the top makes the uphill trek worthwhile--take a moment to soak in the views of the sea and contemplate the long history of this sacred place. • Live close to, but first I came to Enoshima. Sick cannot be stuck was not so much crowd but not like, but sure enough as tourists. To the foreign tourists coming to take only pictures regardless of faith and it just gets boring. Is that tourists are less quiet Enoshima shrine worship what you want. Is a Shinto shrine which honours Japan three great benzaiten at Enoshima shrine, as you know. 3 sister goddess are enshrined. And given one shrine to the goddess, the closest to the entrance is okitu Palace (hetsumiya). Rice-Tsu ratio Telecasting lives (served tagitsu only) are enshrined in here.

  • Enoshima is a must to visit. This is a wonderful island (accessible by foot), just 1h30 from Tokyo center. On a Sunny day, just go there if you have time to spare.
  • Huge, beautiful shrine complex. Has a rather unique feel to it. Interesting statues.
  • Beautiful shrine up the mountainside of Enoshima. A small walk up a few long staircases (or pay for the escalator), but it's a lovely place to see. You can pay respects to Benten, diety of the sea. She is important for many lovers looking for marriage and also for travelers. Free entrance to the outside area.
  • The main shrine building of Enoshima Shrine. I found no English description about the shrine. For me, it's just like another shrine.
  • Excellent place for a day trip that has many restaurants and incredible views of mt Fuji, the ocean, and enoshima. I highly recommend this place for a great cultural and spiritual experience!
