Enoshima Sea Candle, Fujisawa

4.2
Take a lift or climb the spiraling stairs to the top of the 40 m (131.2 ft) Enoshima Sea Candle, where you'll experience breathtaking 360 degree vistas across the bay and city. On a clear day you'll be afforded some of the best views of Mt. Fuji available, with its snow-capped, conical shape visible in the haze of the day. Not only a viewpoint, the structure still functions as a lighthouse, as well as supporting antennas providing cell phone signals. Consider a nighttime visit; aside from being recognized as the 6th best "Japan Heritage Night View," the structure lights up brilliantly, powered by solar energy collected throughout the day. • It was windy on the day we visited. Thus, the lighthouse seemed to rock with the wind, adding a little excitement to the experience of viewing Shonan beach and Kamakura from dizzying heights. It costs...  more »
  • It’s a place were you can have the best view of Kamakura. I think we paid 500yen/each. Besides the great view there’s also a beautiful flower garden. It definitely worth the visit.  more »
  • What's Observatory, Lighthouse is one thing. After you've noticed. Vista was fine during the day but so is good. Buy tickets only and the garden set.

  • Beautiful view of the ocean - on a clear day you can see all the way to Tokyo Tower, and the beautiful eagles or falcons were a highlight of the trip. Would have enjoyed learning more about them and their habitat. Though there was an elevator for the sea candle itself, the rest of the space was unevenly accessible. The escalators up to the top were a nice option, but there wasn't any more accessible route down for most of the island than stairs, so not sure if it would work for everyone. Beautiful gardens, fun shopping and dining areas, and the shrines we're beautiful though I do not know their full history and significance.
  • Went there during the afternoon and it was pretty nice. Perfect for a tranquil soul searching trip. I especially loved the fleet of hawks flying around the island. Wish we were there during the night time. All the lighting seemed fun and quirky.
  • I arrived in Japan during Illuminations where popular tourist destinations are adorned with spectacular lights! As you make your way up the Sea Candle, they have shops and great places to enjoy diverse foods! I had a wonderful time! Enoshima is a fav of mine and I also love Japan!
  • Great views from the Sea Candle, beautiful gardens, and shrine temple. It's a bit of walking but the combination ticket seemed worth it - gets you all 3 escalators and the elevator up the Sea Candle. On a clearer day the view of Mt. Fuji 60 miles away is fantastic.
  • For 500 yen (2018 March), you can took a elevator to top of the sea candle building. If you're already on this island, it's a must. You will be able to see Tokyo skytree, Mt fuji, and most likely your hotel / hostel if the weather is clear. The needle isn't the end of the trail. If you continue following the trail, you can eventually get to the end of island. It's pretty epic.
