Fugaku Wind Cave, Fujikawaguchiko-machi

3.7
#3 of 13 in Nature in Fujikawaguchiko-machi
Wander into the depths of Fugaku Wind Cave, one of many lava caves that pepper in the local forest. With a total length of 201 m (659 ft) and a height of 8.7 m (28.5 ft), you can explore the cave relatively quickly, but don't hang around too long, as the inner cave has a year-round temperature of around 0 to 3 C (32 to 37.4 F). Observe large icicles lit with colorful lights, and note the lack of echo while you talk, with sound quickly absorbed by the basaltic walls of the cave. Wear sturday shoes to explore the subterranean world, as the icy conditions can create slippery spots. • Have not seen the ice cave can see, with the ice point is a bit like, if you really want to choose one of the words, it actually went to the ice point on the line, to see the forest trail to go to the ice cave, but just good melt ice, wearing boots is not good to go, the last can only go through the road.

  • The wind cave is pretty cool! We had a lot of fun walking through. However it is much shorter than we expected. It is worth it to do the combo with the ice cave to save yourself a few hundred yen and ...  more »

  • An easy to navigate cave with rails for those who need assist. The insides are dark and cold with plenty of formations to see. It is, however, the little brother of the ice cave. Still worth a see. Mind the slippery floor.
  • A really cool experience to see some of the beauty that came out of the Mount Fuji eruption. A natural refrigerator. Stunning ice on the inside and amazing how the temperature changes as you descend the stairs. It's a very peaceful place.
  • A good sight seeing point, accessed by bus and car only. However, getting on the bus from Kawaguchiko station was not taking so long. Ice pillar in the cave is just beautiful.
  • Went there in January so it's super cold. Had to really crouch myself to get down since the cave doesn't have a very tall ceiling. It was still worth visiting, besides, there is a forest nearby, walking around can be a nice mood switcher.
  • A fun outing good to combine with the ice cafe. You can come on foot through the forest from the ice cafe, which can feel somewhat eerie. But it's a nice break from driving all day. The cave is impressive but a bit small. You do have to crouch at times. In all it takes about 15 minutes to see the inside.
