Osaka Castle, Osaka

4.0
Castle · Historic Site
Built and rebuilt numerous times since 1653, Osaka Castle looms over its surrounding gardens, moats, imposing stone walls, gates, and turrets. Take the elevator up to the observation deck on the castle’s eighth floor, or wander the garden between the complex’s many structures, stopping in the tea house for a snack. The castle, originally intended to help with the unification of Japan, was captured and changed hands over a dozen times. Visit the museum within to learn more about the castle’s history. • In case you're like me just here to take photos and not planning to go into the castle. A must take photo spot is at this pond area. Its a perfect distance from the castle and the pond reflecting the castle gives a very nice photo. You can find it after when you cross the moat into the castle, passed the well wall, to your left is a toilet and further left is the pond area. I think this is the best spot for photo taking at the castle! Enjoy!
  • To go to the Castle, you will walk through a hundred years old garden. Seeing the old trees here you feel something very good, very sacred of the past. Around the castle is a bit empty, but the castle itself looks very different from the ones in China or Vietnam. It is in white and green.
  • TIP: If you happen to be renting a bike, use it to go to the Osaka castle. It's helpful to get to the main castle/tower. It's not super far, but the grounds are pretty large and using a bike will definitely save your legs some of the walking. The castle itself is magnificent, and reading about the history is fascinating. The history is like Japanese Game of Thrones!
  • The park area is nice and the castle is beautiful. It’s restored though so not the original structure. The inside costs $6 and it really depends on what your expectations are and how much you like history if that’s worth it or not. Very touristy inside with gift shops and museum exhibits with historical anecdotes. The view from the top is very nice and is the real reason I paid to go in.
  • The scenery there is gorgeous and the story of the castle is a colorful one! The observation deck on the eighth floor has breathtaking views. Be prepared to climb plenty of stairs because the elevators only go to the fifth floor unless you’re handicapped. My only gripe is that there was just one small room that recreated what the interior of the castle looked like, but I suppose that wasn’t what was most important.
