Nankinmachi (Kobe Chinatown), Chuo

3.1
Venture past the ornate street gates and carved lions into Nankinmachi (Kobe Chinatown) for a quick change of scenery, culture, and cuisine. The neighborhood dates back to the 1860s, when Kobe's ports first opened to foreign trade and the earliest Chinese immigrants moved into the city. A large population of Chinese still live there, and the brightly colored signs, many restaurants, and shops selling Chinese imports and souvenirs preserve their distinct heritage. • Kobe's Chinatown, it's all just food. Dozens of stalls next to each other. It's nice to take a look around if you're lacing Japanese food

  • There are a lot of shops where eating walking is mainly rather than a meal firmly. Moreover, the atmosphere of Chinatown is faded because there is kobe beef, not Chinese.

  • Morsomt å besøke, det er et ganske så gjennomført strøk. Vi gikk her både på dagtid og på kveldstid, morsomt å se kontrasten. Virker som at det er stengt i god tid før midnatt. Vi gikk også en tur ett...  more »

  • We just walked through China town here in Kobe and it was pretty cool. If it had not been for the fact the my wife and I had just eaten lots of food just prior to coming here, we would have totally gorged our on a bunch of yummy looking food here. China town here is fun with lots of eateries but it get crowded like crazy too. Check it out during the day if you don’t want to run into tons of people while trying to find something good to eat.
  • Smaller version of Yokohama Chinatown but I think the food in Kobe Chinatown are much more delicious and much cheaper than the one I found in Yokohama. The street is pretty clean and not so very crowd, I really enjoyed it. This Chinatown is close to the beach so they have a lot of romantic places for couples One thing I don't like is some restaurant staffs, they tried to invite us with so much insistence even our stomachs are full...
  • A small but very interesting Chinatown. Definitely it has all the traces of the Chinese culture like the architectural designs, Chinese characters in signage, shopfronts etc, the food with menus in Chinese (and Japanese too). And the lady selling Chinese dumplings (steamed meat buns) spoke in Chinese too!! By the way, a very good and tasty steamed bun!
  • This beautiful part of Kobe City is all about China . It's decorated with traditional Chinese style Arches and more. You can find many delicious Chinese Street food and Restaurants. If you like Chinese culture and food or if you just want to improve your Chinese language skill, then you should visit it :)
  • Smaller than your usual Chinatown but it does the job. Restaurants ranging from Cantonese food to Hainan food, all varieties can be found here. Not forgetting the Kobe beef sushi. Great idea I should say. And also remember to find your animal sign in the center place. Definitely a must visit!!
