  • Very beautiful view of Mt. Fuji from the flight from Haneda to Fukuoka since new year's day of this year's weather was good. Haneda-Fukuoka flights could return both seat on the left side you can see high. I usually choose the aisle, but it's new year's day,, and a convenient window, and thought.

  • Really great to see Mount Fuji in person I have seen loads of photographs of it and it was really impressive. Due to the time of year I visited I was not able to get to the top but I drove to the high...  more »
  • New Year's Day overlooking Mt. Fuji. All the places where volcanoes erupt and destroy, but also nourish everything, the power of life, the cycle of life, endless. I still feel a little spectacular.

  • I opened my door each morning to Fuji. It is stunning, and the Japanese love it. I drove to the 8k mark and climbed to the last blowout site. That was nice. If you go, dress warmly, even in summer. It's cold up there! Friends surprised me and took me up, but I was in shorts and nearly froze to death. Everyone looked at me crazily. So you've been told. The Japanese go bonkers taking pictures from the bullet trains because they may have never seen it or rarely do, and it's such an icon in Japan. My lasting memory is seeing the snow-wrapped mountain reflecting blue moonlight at night. Gorgeous. But some days you'd never know it was looming near, being often shrouded in clouds.
  • Once in a life opportunity.... Highly recommend as a two day trip at the least. Start hiking in the afternoon, sleep over at one of the huts ( 1900-0100) and then hike at 0100-0200 to catch the sunrise. Make sure to have cash, we did it several years ago, but everything is cash. Bring different layers of cloth, weather is unpredictable! Depending on time of the year, there will be hiking lines :) Stunning experience!
  • Saw it only from the Shinkansen. The sound of the cameras taking pictures was incredible... But the most iconic mountain in Japan, and just amazing even from a distance. I did see it from Tokyo Tower but it was way in the distance. Next time, I go to the summit. How the heck can anyone give this beautiful sight less than five stars? What's up with the 1-star ratings? Joke submissions? Not funny.
  • The highest mountain in country is an active volcano. It has a cultural significance: for ages it has inspired artists and people still make pilgrimages to the mountain. It is a perfect symbol of Japan – a country, whose appreciation of nature blends incredibly well with culture and religion.
  • Climbed at here of peak for three times. There are several routs to the peak, so you can choose your favourite one suitable with your condition. Fortunately, I could climb at peak and see sunrising from there all three times. But it depends to a large extent on weather / your buddy.

Where to stay in Fuji National Park

Cities around the volcano, such as Fujinomiya and Fujiyoshida, offer a good range of accommodations, including guesthouses, hotels, and rental apartments. Head to the lakes to find scenic retreats with onsens and a scattered few hostels, guesthouses, and simple hotels in the surrounding towns. Seasonal campsites provide a good option for more budget-conscious travelers, as do basic, shared huts at some of the hill stations on the route up the volcano. Advance reservations for the huts are strongly recommended because of limited space.
