4/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web
One of the five major Shinto shrines in Tokyo, Tokyo Daijingu enshrines Amaterasu the sun goddess, an ancestral deity of the imperial family. Built in 1880 by the Meiji emperor so that anyone could receive Amaterasu’s legendary blessing without going for a pilgrimage to faraway Isa Grand Shrine, the place grew in popularity as a love shrine. Mostly visited by women, the temple supposedly offers visitors success in relationships and marriage, hence the many love and romance amulets around the complex. Perched on a small hilltop, the shrine can be reached in 10 minutes on foot from Iidabashi station. Put Tokyo Daijingu at the forefront of your travel plans using our Tokyo tour planner.
