Hotel New Otani Japanese Garden, Chiyoda

4.6
#21 of 254 in Parks in Tokyo
Garden Nature / Park
An oasis in the city with a large curving waterfall, Hotel New Otani Japanese Garden provides tranquility in the midst of a busy district of Akasaka, with its carp pond and meticulously manicured greenery. Part of the hotel, but accessible to outside visitors, the garden features neatly trimmed shrubs, a red arched bridge, and many benches to sit and relax on. Designed in the 1960s and accentuating its natural features, the garden was once part of the 400-year-old former royal palace. Admire the tea house and the small zen garden, with raked sand features and stones. Hotel New Otani Japanese Garden is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Tokyo Edition.

Where to stay in Tokyo

Tokyo abounds with excellent places to stay, from luxury affairs to humble budget-friendly lodgings. Its glittering skyscrapers house numerous international four- and five-star hotels, both in the populous cultural hotspots of Shinjuku and in the business centers of Akasaka and Shinbashi. Meanwhile, hostels catering to the shoestring traveler lie scattered throughout the city. For a memorable, distinctly Japanese experience, seek out a ryokan, a traditional bed and breakfast with tatami floor mats and sliding screen doors.

  • A surprise garden behind the hotel, lots of water and koi and extremely pretty setting. Well worth a visit.  more »
  • We were lucky to stay at The New Otani and enjoy the gardens. I would highly recommend anyone to go see the gardens even if they were not staying there.  more »
  • It was beautiful day in the first weekend of April, 2017 and the event was nice surprise. I did not know about this event, so if you have a chance to stay in early April in Tokyo, check the New Otani ...  more »

  • Very scenic garden set in the grounds of the new otani hotel. This garden features plants that will bloom or colour in all seasons, so there is always a reason to visit. Lovely tea house in the centre of the garden which has very nice traditional refreshments. Cherry Blossom festival in spring, and maple changing colours festival in autumn. Free admission.
  • An excellent design. Worth to take guests here.
  • Beautiful quite Japanese garden.
  • Fascinated with the unbalanced structure of building Japanese Gardens of Japan and Otani and Western. Pond water clear and clean could carp. After breakfast, stroll up to the check-out time, guests can enjoy relaxing time.
