Lake Shikotsu, Chitose

(4/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
Away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Lake Shikotsu represents one of Japan's deepest bodies of water, offering fine views of a still-active volcano. Formed some 30,000 years ago, the caldera doesn't freeze in the winter, despite the cold northern climate. The eastern shore features hotels and hot spring resorts for tourists, while a nearby canyon shelters rich plant life and over twenty types of moss viewable from an observation deck--an ideal destination for nature lovers. Stroll around the lake's rim or hike up the volcano and enjoy the views over the deserted crater landscape and the glimmering water. Put Lake Shikotsu into our Chitose travel itinerary maker and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • I visited in early September of last year. Without a high degree of transparency and trash and clean environment is an impressive Lake. There on a weekday morning, tourists could enjoy the refreshing breeze of the Lake in the morning quietly, not so much. Visitor Center and parking lot, usually by car about 500 yen parking fee; From the parking lot down the Hill to the lakeside and walk a bit. Appearing in between the mountains surrounded by forest Lake, Lake blue, crystal-clear water receives the rays of the morning sun was shining beautifully. Overlooking the Lake and see clearly the bottom of the Lake, take the apparent clarity of the water is said to be equivalent to the Lake Mashu. In addition, the attraction is not only highly transparent Lakes. Bridge over the existing cruise ship terminal left Hokkaido's oldest "mountain railway" but combined bridge from Lake Vermilion bridge with the blue of the Lake and the clear, pale blue light, shining beautiful views near Lake signs. It is great you can of course pass, look into the Lake from the top of the bridge, feel the clarity of the Lake from above. This is a great place to stay, and shop and visitor's Center near the parking lot. It would be nice to say learn the nature of Lake shikotsu in the visitor center, buying ice cream at the shop, in the Lake and relax with a quiet wind course. This Lake is also in the wilderness and yet so quiet and nice place despite not only about 25 km away from Shin-Chitose by car and 30 minutes accessible location in the very. This is where you borrow car at New Chitose definitely passionate.
